Hello -

Just looking for ideas on the best way to get the lay of the land so to speak when walking into a new environment.

@MrWonderful,

From a firewall perspective? The first thing that I would start doing is reviewing the security rulebase. How segmented is the network, how locked down are public resources, do you have any wide-open security entries, are you using user-id, do you have profiles configured on your security rulebase entires?

Outside of that, I would recommend letting anything but the most outrageous configuration issues present until you can get a lay of the land and actually know what you are dealing with. The last thing you want to do in a new environment is start making a bunch of changes and end up breaking something that effects production services.

Hello,

Depending  on the size of the environment, I suggest a drawing of your nats. Just something for quick reference so you dont have to keep going from tab to tab looking for stuff.

Regards,
