Expedition as OVA or OVF?

L1 Bithead

Dear All,

does somebody know when Expedition will be available as OVA or OFV File?

Our VMWare Admin denies the implementation or the current downloadable Expedition Tool.

Best Regards

René from Germany

Yes.

There is documentation on the link provided above, in the section called "Documentation"

https://www.vmware.com/products/converter.html

This will lead you to following documentation link: https://docs.vmware.com/en/vCenter-Converter-Standalone/6.2/com.vmware.convsa.guide/GUID-C83AC3F9-48...

Note: We are not VMWare Admins either, but users of the VMWare products to offer Expedition as a virtual machine.

I guess we will offer the image soon. However, have you tried using the VMWare converter tool?

Hello,

i tried the Converter tool, but the outcome was only a VMDK File.

My VMWare Admin consists an OVA or OVF File for the Expedition Server.

So it would be very nice to know when it is planned to release Expedition as OVA.

Best Regards

René

We have multiple users that have converted the VM into an OVF/OVA with no problems.

Soon we will release the version 1.1.0 of Expedition. We will make an effort to offer a new OVA/OVF version of it already updated to 1.1.0 and publish it as well.

We do not have a specific date for this yet.

Hi,

thank you for the Quick Response.

I´m not a VMWare Admin, and maybe i have problems with the handling of the tool.

Is there a short introduction, how i can create a OVA File?

Best Regards

Right idea...wrong tool.  You need the OVFTOOL - the Converter will not produce the OVF.

https://www.vmware.com/support/developer/ovf/
https://www.vmware.com/support/developer/ovf/ovftool-430-userguide.pdf

Here's the example usage:

C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware OVF Tool>ovftool.exe -h examples

   ovftool c:\vms\my_vm.vmx c:\ovfs\my_vapp.ovf
(.vmx file to .ovf file. Result files will be c:\ovfs\my_vapp.[ovf|vmdk])

Here's my output:

C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware OVF Tool>ovftool.exe C:\tmp\vm\Expedition\ExpeditionVM.vmx C:\tmp\vm\ovf\Expedition.OVF
Opening VMX source: C:\tmp\vm\Expedition\ExpeditionVM.vmx
Opening OVF target: C:\tmp\vm\ovf\Expedition.OVF
Writing OVF package: C:\tmp\vm\ovf\Expedition.OVF
Transfer Completed
Completed successfully

Cheers!
