Inbound NAT Question

Not applicable

Hello-

I am running PA-4050's in an HA oair with s/w version 4.0.7.  I have a "guest-wi-fi" zone and Untrust Zone.  I currently have an outbound NAT rule for the Guest wifi pool (10.250.98.0/24) to the Untrust Zone using the source address of the wifi pool (10.250.98.0/24) going to destination "any" using dynamic IP and Port translation to 123.123.123.123 (external address used for our guest wifi users).  I believe I need the reverse NAT in order to properly route traffic back to Guest wifi users.  My question is would the inbound NAT work with this configuration:

Source zone: Untrust to destination Zone Untrust, source address "any" destination address 123.123.123.123, service "any" source translation "none" destination translation "Guest LAN - 10.250.98.0/24).  Or do I need the source translation as the 10.250.98.0/24?

Thanks!

I'm a bit confused by why you need an Inbound NAT on a guest wifi. The only reason I can think is if you were hosting services on the guest wifi. You only need one NAT rule to allow internet access to those on the guest wifi and it sounds like you already created that one.

Hi Darcy,

If you are not hosting a server on the guest wifi network, you won't need an inbound NAT rule.  In other words, if guest-wifi users only need to be able to connect out from this network, you only need source NAT.  For the packets coming back from servers on the internet that match a session initiated by a guest in the guest-wifi network, the firewall will automatically perform the reverse translation.

Thanks,
