Is PBR similar or better than WCCP?

L3 Networker

We're planning on implementing WCCP to route http and some streaming traffic to our proxy, but looking at how PBR work it's very similar. Can someone please give me a good comparison between the 2?

thank you.

Per Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_Cache_Communication_Protocol

Web Cache Communication Protocol (WCCP) is a Cisco-developed content-routing protocol that provides a mechanism to redirect traffic flows in real-time. It has built-in load balancing, scaling, fault tolerance, and service-assurance (failsafe) mechanisms.

PA obviously does not support WCCP. PBF is designed to just forward all traffic matching the PBF rule to wherever it needs to forward to. There is no connection or interaction as such with any sort of server. It just sends the traffic. I do not know much else about WCCP so cannot say if just forwarding all HTTP traffic to your WCCP server would have any problems.
