Is there any way to monitor the state of a Virtual Wire?

We are testing vwire behavior with link state pass through enabled in our lab where it is working properly, but there is very little information to use as indicators of a transition.  Basically, all we can find in the log is the interface down message for the connection pulled. Is there any log or counter than can be viewed to tell that a virtual wire state has changed?

You can look at the color of the interface in the GUI ? 😉

I guess you mean methods to find out in the logs that a interface is flaping or such?

Ha...Yeah, something besides the color change in the GUI!

Logs are exactly what we want, so that we can syslog it to another spot and get notifications.

Do you have 'Link State Pass Through' enabled? If this option is selected, link status is not propagated across the VW. You will not know which side of the link is broken with this option enabled

Also, the syslog will show up/down states, which are  'information' severity logs.With a Virtual Wire, there isnt a lot of  information that can be gathered due to the nature of the interface  type.

It sounds like you are seeing the interface down messages, which can be sent to a syslog server.

Cant one setup a SNMP trap to be sent when either side of a vwire goes down?

Just a quick point of clarification.  With link state passthrough enabled, we will propagate the state of one end of the virtual wire to the other.  So if a router on one end of the vwire fails, we'll also bring down the link on the other end if the feature is enabled.
