Hi, We bought a PA3050 appliance that will replace our PA4020 appliance. So I need to know how to migrate data and configuration from the older one to the older one. Is it possible jutst by copying files from one to the other?.
Thanks

Hello elaporte,
PA 4020 comes with 16 gig ports and PA 3050 with 12 gig ports along with 8 gig SFP ports on both platforms so if you are not using those extra 4 gig ports on PA 4020, configuration migration should be smooth.
You can export running-config.xml via ( Device -> Setup -> Operations -> Export named configuration snapshot ) file from PA 4020 to PA 3050.
Here is a document for your reference:-

Please make sure both the firewalls are on same PAN os version before you migrate the configuration.

Hello elaporte,
Whilst you can just copy the configration across by exporting the config and importing it, if you are going from one hardware platform to a different one then this is not currently supported so you may run into issues.
hope this helps,
Ben

Hello,
We migrated a configuration from one platform to another many times. As @dmoudgil said, as long as you are on PA-4020 not using the interfaces that are not available on PA-3050 and you have same versions of PAN-OS you should be good. The versions even don't have to be completely the same. You can do for example 6.0.x->6.0.y or 6.1.x->6.1.y etc.
