Slots as it relates to interface

Apologies for the simplicity of the question, but can someone help me understand the relationship between slots and interfaces? Network > Interfaces > Add Interface (You pick a Slot and then an Interface Name) - but I don't understand what one has to do with the other. Hopefully my questions makes sense to someone. Thanks.

Hello there.

I would say 99% of the time, you will be using eth1/1 as many of the FWs only have a single face panel (slot).

The PA7000 series firewalls have multiple slots, so this is where it would be important to choose the slot number, so you are programming the correct interface.

slot refers to just like Line card 1 say if slot 1 has 12 ports.

Slot 1 number like ethernet 1/1

Where 1 refer to Slot number 

IT is similar concept in the switches.

Slot 2  refer to like Line card 2 means interface will number like ethernet 2/1

Here 2 refer to line card 2.

Mostly we will have slot 2 or 3 in 7000 PA.
