SMB Resource unavailable

L1 Bithead

Hello,

Today we had an issue with our PA-820. The access to our fileserver via SMB was reported as Resource not available in the firewall monitor and nearly all users had difficulties while accessing the file-server.

We solved that issue by switching to our passive firewall. Then everything was immediately working correctly.

We are using PAN-OS 9.1.8. Did anyone else had that issue?

During the issue did you check the memory, dataplane or managment plane CPU? Or it could interface errors also sometimes if the firewall has a full disk space partition it can act strange.

One thing is if the SMB is a long lived connection it could have timeouted:

Hello Nikolay,

Thanks for your response! I don't think that the timeout settings are the reason for this. The firewall is working with the same settings for a long while now and we never had to change them. I remember that the dataplane CPU was about 50% but the other way below.

Do you have any other suggestions?

You may check the files dp-monitor log and cp-monitor log at that time if something jumped. Also check the system logs from the GUI.
