Versions of global protect

The current version of Global Protect is 5.2.13. Need to know what version to install next. Want to get to at least 6.2. Need support page for upgrading global protect and in what order the versions should be installed. Which ones need a REBOOT, and which ones don't need a reboot?

@Brendaparsons,

You don't need to jump through GlobalProtect versions when upgrading, you can just jump to the target version of GlobalProtect directly. How you go about installing that upgrade will vary by environment and how your app settings are actually configured; some people will utilize external tools like SCCM or Intune to upgrade the client, while some will do it directly from the firewall. If upgrading directly from the firewall you would simply activate the target GlobalProtect client on the device and it would follow whatever upgrade mechanism you have configured in your app config. If you haven't done this in your environment previously it will require a bit of investigation on your end to see how this is being handled, as activating the new client on the firewall won't do anything if SCCM/Intune is the thing actually handling GlobalProtect deployments for your organization.

The preferred version of GlobalProtect is visible directly within the firewall GUI on most modern PAN-OS versions. Just navigate to Device -> GlobalProtect Client and you will see the release type will be specified, at the moment if you're set on 6.2 preferred releases would be 6.2.5-c788 or 6.2.7. Personally I always recommend a restart be performed after upgrading the client just to avoid any issues, especially when going from an older release. I would download the installer and walk through the upgrade yourself on a couple devices to ensure behavior when upgrading from 5.2.13 so you can see if a restart is needed or not directly. A would plan on people needing to restart once the upgrade is applied simply as this will help prevent people calling in with connection issues and you're making a pretty large jump in version.
