Cortex XDR agent auto upgrade

L1 Bithead

Hello All,

Is there any recommended configurations for auto upgrade agent? Do we need to disable the agent tampering when applying these changes.

Also is there anyone having observations regarding failed system while upgrade do they revert back to old version in connected state or we need to reinstall them again manually.

Thanks in advance.

Hi @tejasp04 I assume you're referring to upgrading agents from Cortex XDR UI. If yes, you do not need to disable tamper protection.

You can use the following recommendations towards finetuning your plan:

  1. Upgrade your servers only during maintenance periods, and similarly for workstations to ensure operational stability inline with your organizational standards.
  2. Some organizations prefer to use maintenance releases across the fleet, especially for servers due to a continuous improved stability.
  3. Identify UAT, DEV, SIT and PROD endpoints (or anything that divides your environment into logical segments) and put them in corresponding endpoint groups.
  4. Upgrade each endpoint group in sequence to ensure performance and usability is not impacted. Say, your organization prefers to use latest maintenance releases, you can consider the following upgrade path:
    - UAT groups can be configured to upgrade immediately
    - DEV groups can be configured to upgrade 7 days later (Delay period = 7 days)
    and so on.
  5. Consider leveraging Action Center if you need to manually initiate upgrades for specific endpoints.

Do note that each of these are general recommendations, and there is no one size that fits all. Discuss with your internal teams to understand the practices adopted within your organization, and align your upgrade strategy accordingly.
