Any experience with MediaFire?

L2 Linker

I have an end customer who was attempting to download a file from mediafire (also known as causeway.com). His policy allows the mediafire application, and the initial connection is made, so the web site is accessible.

If he is provided with a download link to a file from another user (this seems to be a common usage of this site), the connection is made, but the download does not start and we are unable to see anything in the traffic monitor, the URL log (not alerting) or the data filtering log (the rule does not have a data filtering profile defined).

When making the connection via another internet link (not using a PAN firewall) the download works as expected.

Does anyone have any experience with using this file-sharing site/application via a Plao Alto firewall, and if there are any special settings that are required to access the downloads?

Thank you for any comments or insights

David

Hello,

The MediaFire is a browser-based file sharing method, we can treat as a P2P as well.

1. Could you please check if you have configured to stop any P2P download.

Thanks

I have checked back with the end customer, and they have blocked P2P traffic. It certainly looks like this could be the reason for the site/browser indicating that the download is starting but no traffic being passed.

It is odd that this doesn't get logged as a threat or similar but the P2P function is useful to know about

Regards

Hi David,

Could you please share >show system info ---- o/p from that firewall. ( To understand the HW model, PAN-OS version, App and threat database). I will do a LAB test and let you know the exact behavior.

Thanks
