applications for Windows domain

L4 Transporter

We are preparing to put a client PC who is part of our domain in another subnet, behind PA firewall.

Can you help me complete a list of applications needed for normal Windows domain functionality ?

The usual would be:

  • dns
  • ms-netlogon
  • active-directory (includes ms-ds-smb for access to file shares
  • printing (hp-jetdirect and the like)

What about

  • ntp ?
  • netbios ?
  • wins ? (or would dns suffice ?)
  • dfs ? (file shares in dfs structure)

What if you have disabled "NetBIOS Over TCP/IP" in network settings?

netbios can also run over udp (udp137 + udp/138) which is included in the netbios-dg and netbios-ns applications

Thank you, all.

Implementation is planned next week. I'll post back.

Hi, just wanted to let you all know that everything is working as expected. Thank you.
