applipedia categories

Sorry if this doesn't belong in this location.

I see in the applipedia that the applictions have a description.  Does such a description or definition excist for the categories and more specifically the subcategories?  For example, what is the difference between social-business and social-networking sub categories?

Hi Mark

no, I don't think there's a list that describes the subcategories.

a good trick to see which apps belong in a subcategory is to create a new application filter and select the desired subcategory

social-business would contain apps like salesforce, blackboard, slack,... tools typically used to cooperate within an organization

social-networking populates with facebook, foursquare, hyves,...

Thanks for the response.

Im looking for something a little more descriptive.  Currently writing my dissertation and some of my data came from a palo alto.  I'm trying to be as thorough and indepth as possible with my research.  I will certainly benefit from your suggestion but if any one else reads this a definition for the catergories and subs would be ideal.

Thanks so much.

I've yet to come across anything that would say exactly why something would be in a specific category or sub-category. I would think that since the categories are fairly self explained that nobody has taken the time to build one out yet.
