cluster PA-5020 migrating to PA-1410

L1 Bithead

Hi Experts,

We are migrating from Cluster PA-5020 to PA-1410, I have some queries below if you guys can help me out please.

1. For platform migration(PA-5020 to PA-1410), we can just upload configuration files on the new PA-1410, just recheck physical ports configuration and it will work please confirm.

2. Expedition tools are not necessary in PA to PA migration please confirm(because it changes nomenclature, rules name etc).

3. Also if we just upload configuration files on the new PA-1410 the versions will not be the same on both PAs, 1410 starts from 11.x. will it make a difference?

4. Expedition tool supports PA-1410?

5. Do we need to do any manual configurations on new PA-1410 ?

Regards,

Many thanks.

1. in theory this may indeed work, but check the ports before importing the config. you can use a tool like expedition to remap the interfaces beforehand. This (expedition) will also help clean up the config and expoert it out to a more compatible format since the 5k will be on PANOS 8.1 and the 1400 on PANOS 11

2. it's not necessary but i'd recommend it to ensure you remap interfaces properly and export an 'updated' configuration for panos 11

3. in general this may work flawlessly. if you're feeling lucky you can give it a shot but i'd recommend going through expedition

4. expedition supports all platforms (all platforms use mostly similar XML formatting)

5. if you're going to 'copy' the config 1:1, i'd still expect some changes to require manual intervention, simply because you're migrating from 8.1 to 11. for example the default setting of 'dhcp enabled' on the management interface is not supported (does not exist) on 8.1

hope this helps
