Error: "Detected another instance" An old GlobalProtect instance exists... (Mac 10.14.5)

New Macbook pro, MacOS 10.14.5 the user account and applications were migrated using migration assistant.

In the past this works fine. User is getting continual popups:

Steps taken: uninstalled using globalprotect installer. Reboot. Reinstall. Same error.

Uninstall client again, in terminal ran support document steps to detect enforcer kernel extension "kextstat | grep gplock" no results from command.

Does anyone have suggestions? I think this is related to multiple instances of the app running which would suggest a launch item duplication causing two processes to run at the same time but I'm not sure how to find them (or why its happening now when this has worked dozens of times but thats secondary(

Please advise and thank you

posting this for posterity and to help the mac community:

The issue was not technical which is why there were no google search results, etc.about it anywhere.

The user had told the Globalprotect application to start on login, either through right clicking the application in the dock and selecting "Start at Login" or manually adding the icon to the Login Items window in System Preferences/Users and Group/their account.Once globalprotect was removed from startup items and the mac rebooted the problem is resolved.
