HA Preemption and Session Syncronization - you need HA2

L1 Bithead

For whatever reason I didn't see the need to configure HA2. But while testing HA I could not get preemption to work. I read everything I could find online and got frustrated that it would not let the designated firewall take back control automatically. I read the system log and bit more closely and found this entry:

"HA Group 1: Ignoring session synchronization due to HA2-unavailable; preemption waiting for session synchronization"

I cannot find single reference online to a connection between session sync and preemption but there you have it. Just thought I would save the next bozo like some face palming by posting this. Good luck!

Hi!

This may be a useful reference article for all things that are synched over each HA interface:

High Availability Synchronization

preempt does require a fully synced session table as it is designed to gracefully reset to the desired active member after it has been unavailable, the absense of a synced session table would cause a majopr network disruption as all active sessions would be disrupted

Hi,

No HA2 mean no session synchro then all running session wil be dropped in case of HA. It's ... less transparent for user 😉

No HA if you don't have HA2 ... strange. What are you failover condition ?
