OOM crash and HA swapping with 10.2.10

L6 Presenter

Has anyone experienced out-of-memory freeze and repeated swapping between primary and secondary HA pairs? We just had our PA-3420 freeze and stop passing traffic, followed by multiple HA swaps, followed by the same again 30min later.

There was a hotfix 10.2.10-h3 released last night which includes a note about a OOM bug and a all_tasks lockup bug. We have been running on 10.2.10 for 2 weeks prior to this without issues.

Hello,

Check System Resources:
Verify the memory usage on your PA-3420. If it’s consistently reaching high levels, it could trigger OOM conditions.
Monitor CPU utilization as well. Sometimes high CPU load can lead to memory exhaustion.
Review Logs:
Check the system logs for any specific error messages related to memory allocation or HA swaps.
Look for patterns or recurring events that might provide clues.
Upgrade Firmware:
Consider upgrading to a more recent PAN-OS version. Sometimes firmware updates include fixes for known issues.
Ensure you follow best practices during the upgrade process.
Review Configuration:
Double-check your HA configuration settings. Misconfigurations can cause unexpected behavior.
Verify that the HA heartbeat and synchronization are functioning correctly.
Contact Support:
Reach out to Palo Alto Networks support. They can provide specific guidance based on your environment and logs.
Share details about your setup, including network topology, HA configuration, and any recent changes.

Best Regards
