PA-VM 10.0.4 Trial, gets shutdown after a minute.

L1 Bithead

Hi All,

I have received a download link from Palo Alto and downloaded the OVA eval file, after importing the device to the VmWare, it becomes online but after 1-2 minutes gets shutdown.

Please let me know how can I resolve the issue.

Thanks

Check if your VM configuration is compatible: https://docs.paloaltonetworks.com/compatibility-matrix/vm-series-firewalls/vms-series-hypervisor-sup...

also check if the parameters (CPU cores, assigned ram, ... ) is accurate

Hi @reaper , thanks for your reply,

I have tried it on several platforms like ESXi 7, VmWare Workstation 16, Eve-ng 5.x and assigned the PA-VM different RAM(up to 12Gig) and CPU(Up to 8 core)

Still getting shutdown after 1-2 minutes.

Thanks

Ok, Found the solution and it works for me:

1- Disable the time on the Vmware

2- Go to VM host directory and add below lines to the vmx file, to completely disable the time sync

      time.synchronize.continue = "FALSE"
      time.synchronize.restore = "FALSE"
      time.synchronize.resume.disk = "FALSE"
      time.synchronize.shrink = "FALSE"
      time.synchronize.tools.startup = "FALSE"

3- Start the VM from : Power -> Power on to Firmware

4- from BIOS, change date to 01/01/2021

5- Save and Exit from BIOS

6- VM will come up and will not power off anymore, you can set NTP on the PA VM to have the correct time.

7- If you shutdown the VM and want to restart it again, repeat from step 3.

Cheers,

Thank-you! That worked for me.

@reaper How can these instructions be added to the VM-Series Evaluation Quickstart Guide? It will save customers a lot of trouble. VM-Series Evaluation Quickstart Guide (paloaltonetworks.com)

Hi

Could help me out how to procedure that in my vmware?

Regards,

I applied all settings on multiple systems but did not work it out. is there any solution? I contacted the Paloalto customer care team but did not provide any support on the Eval version OR they do not provide any good advice on the same.
