Pan-OS 8.0 and PA-200

L2 Linker

Has anyone upgraded a PA-200 to PAN-OS 8.0? If so have you seen a performance hit at all? Notice a difference in how long things take? Commits? Response time? How long did the upgrade take? Did it take the 50-60 minutes Palo says? If so is that sitting right next to you or on the local LAN? Or was it over WAN connection? Just looking for info at the moment.

I may be a little biassed but my upgrade went smoothly, i see no performance impact (negatively), everything works smoothly, commits go swiftly

the 50-60 minute upgrade duration depends on a couple of factors: with every major upgrade the log database gets a major overhaul (especially in 8.0 where new logs have been introduced) and the logdb needs to be rebuilt, this can take a long time if it is full

if it is empty, the upgrade process takes about 5 minutes.

protip: if you forward all your logs or don't need them perse, you can clear the logdb before upgrading

I did not feel any performance hit so far.   It seems about the same as 7.1.  The upgrade took under 10 minutes for me.   As reaper said, delete the existing log will speed up post upgrade because the log file won't need to get update to 8.0 format.

anyone wanna share the new os file with me 🙂

😛

@PaloWhato,

If you don't have an active support contract you should contact your SE to see if he will make an exception. Unfortunately sharing files with you would be a viloation of the terms of service on everybodys support contact, which would be especially unwise on the companies offical community forum. 😉

come on anyone!!!

@PaloWhato

FYI: The file for PAN-OS 8 won't be enough for your PA-200 on 5.0.12/5.1.2. You also need (5.1), 6.0, 6.1, 7.0 and 7.1.

But as @BPry already wrote this forum is not the right place to ask others to violate the terms of service on their support contracts

@PaloWhato If you renew the support contract on your PA-200 you'll be able to legally download all the PAN-OS versions plus all the latest content updates. Please reach out to your local sales representative, they may be able to give you a good deal on a lab bundle including threat protection and URL filtering

Please refrain from asking fellow members to breach their terms of use

I have upgraded a few PA-200(Test Lab only) it takes around 10 minutes and 6-8(Firewall being offline) minutes after rebooting to apply new version.
