"Abnormal system memory usage detected, restarting mgmtsrvr with virtual memory 890800 KB."

L3 Networker

Customer received this error "Abnormal system memory usage detected, restarting mgmtsrvr with virtual memory 890800 KB."

What could be the probable cause for such error?

Also device frequently hangs and only works after reboot.

This can be management server memory leaking issue and it is probably software bug. I recommend you to open a TAC case for this problem.

Hi tac.in ,

Messages mentioned above points to bug 67187. Issue is fixed in 6.1.1 and 6.0.7. Here is a snapshot from the release notes :

"The following error was displayed due to an issue that caused a User-ID process to restart:--->>> Abnormal system memory usage detected, restarting userid with virtual memory <-------. Many GlobalProtect users logging into the system, and the resulting High Availability (HA) synchronization of the HIP reports, caused the virtual memory to exceed its limit."

Is customer running version older than above mentioned? If yes, it might be good time to upgrade.

Hope this helps. Thank you.

Hello All

Thanks for information provided.

PAN OS version: 6.03

Model#: 2020

I have already analysed the output of > show system resources and found that this device has 1GB of RAM and 2GB swap file. Device has reached the limit of memory utilization

Advised customer to lower memory utilization and swap file utilization by disabling predefined reports (https://live.paloaltonetworks.com/docs/DOC-6632).

Hi tac.in ,

If you are seeing above mentioned messages and are running software version earlier than 6.0.7, I would suggest you to upgrade. Thank you.
