Rule to be notified when users connect to wifi

L0 Member

Hi guys. Does anyone know how to set a rule to be notified when new users join the network?

there are many ways, it just depends on what your requirements are and what your situation is?

is this a small or a large environment? what constitutes 'joining the network' exactly? how do you want to be notified?

@RaffaFossa,

Assuming that you're a tiny environment and actually want to be notified whenever someone joins the network, what's handing out DHCP on your network? If it's the firewall you could setup system alerts for dhcp lease-start events:

((subtype eq dhcp) and ( eventid eq lease-start ))

I'd caution that there's much better ways to search for clients than getting an alert whenever a DHCP lease initiates if you're willing to utilize the API and do a little bit of scripting. This is an extremely quick and easy way to get the alert, but lease-start events will be noisy depending on clients and lease timeouts. Like you'll get at least 1 alert per day for every single client.
