SFP Compatibility for PA-820

L0 Member

Hi All,

I would like to know please  a compatible Brand of SFP ports 1Gbps MMF  for Firewall Palo Alto PA-820, for this FIrewall  the SFP model in Palo Alto is: PAN-SFP-SX . I have been told that the brand Finisar model: Ftlf8519p3bnl is compatible with that. I would like to make sure about that please since I am in Bolivia and it is really hard to get this ports here so I need to get the correct ones.

Thanks.

@danielarojas,

PAN is just short for Palo Alto Networks; the Cisco SFP that you have listed is pretty standard, while you should be perfectly fine I'm never going to tell someone for certain an unsupported component will work with their equipment.

@danielarojas,

The only thing that Palo-Alto officially supports is their own SFPs, as they've gone through the process of verifying that it works with their hardware. That being said I've used plenty of Cisco, FS, and Finisar modules without any issues at all, and while I've never used that specific Finisar SFP, it appears to meet all of the specification requirements.

If you absolutely need the SFP to function and getting any standard module is an issue because of location, I would simply order an SFP through PAN so you don't have to worry about compatibility and you can insure that it works first try.

Thank you very much for the response , It really helps me since I could also try with Cisco ports since they are more commercial here , one question else please, what do you mean with order an SFP through PAN (sorry  I am not familiar with PAN term).

So, other provider in my country offered me this Cisco port :

Gigabit Ethernet SX Mini-GBIC SFP Transceiver, (MMF)-Duplex LC

Which seems to have the features which I need : 1Gbps MMF SFPs and the SFP's wavelength is Tx/Rx Wavelength: 850 nm.

Do you think that this model of SFP port would work  with the Firewall Palo ALto PA-820?

Thanks!

Hello,

The only way to be sure you be to purchase one and test, unfortunately. There are 3rd party ones that work, but like @BPry stated, they wont be supported.
