SWITCHING PANORAMA VM FROM LEGACY MODE TO PANORAMA MODE

https://knowledgebase.paloaltonetworks.com/KCSArticleDetail?id=kA10g000000PPTzCAO

- Currently running on 8.1.x version in Panorama Legacy mode on VM and need to upgrade the system disk to meet the requirements of Panorama mode

- We followed steps as mentioned in Increase the System Disk for Panorama on an ESXi Server (paloaltonetworks.com) along with the SWITCHING PANORAMA VM FROM LEGACY MODE TO PANORAMA MODE link on the top and we are running into issue.

- The device reboots by itself in about 20 minutes (with no error indication),  after we run request system clone-system-disk target sdb

- The GUI shows us critical error has been detected preventing proper boot up of the device (image attached below)

Param_Upadhyay_0-1677708171809.png

- No error from the console, ssh to panorama shows - system initializing

- We power cycled it and we are able to access the device again - back to square one.

Summary of steps:
Switching Panorama VM from legacy mode to Panorama mode
1) Power off Panorama Virtual Appliance

2) From the vSphere client console: Add 16 CPU - 32 GB memory - Add and attach a new virtual system disk of 81GB.
3) Add a new virtual disk of 2TB
4) Power ON the Panorama VM
5) view available disk - request system clone-system-disk target ?
6) clone the system disk and waited for about 20 minutes- request system clone-system-disk target sdb

Any assistance will be appreciated.

Is there a way to fix this or a workaround if any?

As it seems the clone-system disk is not completing on the new disk sdb and the device just reboots in maintenance mode

have you tried removing the log disk (2tb) and simply trying to boot into 2 disk situation?

if not, try deleting the new disk (remove, don't delete yet) and boot into the single dik. if that works, shut down, add the 1 disk, boot up and go forward with the disk copy

after that, if that worked, follow the steps to add the 2tb one and

We tried with only 2 disk, 81G available in the 2nd disk and it failed to clone the disk, tried that twice.

We only have sdb available to clone the system disk.
