VM-Series License Renewal Display Behavior

L0 Member

Attention: Global TPM Team
Hello Team,

Could you help clarify the expected behavior of VM-Series license renewal and license expiration date display?

Environment:
- Product: VM-Series
- PAN-OS: 11.1

Example:

Current license:
- Date Issued: Nov 14, 2025
- Date Expires: Nov 14, 2026

Renewal license:
- Contract period: Nov 15, 2026 - Nov 14, 2027

Our understanding is that VM-Series license expiration and renewal processing is based on GMT, and the renewal becomes effective at 00:00 GMT on the expiration date.

For example, if the current license shows:
- Date Expires: Nov 14, 2026

we understand that the license renewal processing occurs at:
- Nov 14, 2026 00:00 GMT
- Nov 14, 2026 09:00 JST

However, in a recent customer case, the customer received a renewal certificate and confirmed that the firewall GUI already displayed the renewed license information before the current license expiration date.

Could you please clarify the following?

1. If a renewal license is activated before the current license expires, is it expected that the renewed license period will be displayed in Device > Licenses before the expiration date?

2. What triggers the license expiration date displayed on the firewall to be updated?
For example:
- Renewal certificate issuance
- Auth Code activation
- Retrieving licenses from the license server
- The actual license expiration/renewal time

3. Could you clarify the difference between:
- when a renewed license becomes visible in the firewall GUI, and
- when the renewed license actually takes effect?

The customer plans to use this information as guidance for future customer support cases, so we would appreciate clarification regarding the official behavior.

Thank you.
