What BGP command can i use to see why a BGP Peer Group state shows "active" or what log file will it show in

The log file you should probably check is routed.log
> less mp-log routed.log
Another helpful command is 'show routing protocol bgp peer peer-name <peer>'
This provides a bunch of information about the peer relationship and might helpf in troubleshooting.
