Updating firmware with pending commit

L0 Member

What happens to pending commits if the firewall firmware is updated and the reboot occurs?  We have made some interface changes for an upcoming project, but it has been pushed back.  If I update the firmware, will the commit be completed or will it stay as pending?

Yes, it is possible, but unexpected actions may occur, such as losing pending settings, not even allowing the upgrade to proceed, or the update process failing after starting. Why not apply the commit and only then update the firmware, which prevents you from making that commit?

Hello @jmarcus101

starting from PAN-OS 10.1 uncommitted changes are persistent: Persistent Uncommitted Changes on PAN-OS. The uncommitted changes should be still there after you reboot Firewall.

Kind Regards
