Enhanced Security Measures in Place: To ensure a safer experience, we’ve implemented additional, temporary security measures for all users.
Palo Alto Networks will publish a new Advanced URL Filtering category called “Remote-Access” on November 19, 2024.
ACTION: An action may be required. The Remote-Access category action is set to ALERT only for the default profile. If you have multiple URL Filtering Security profiles, you need to update the default action to the recommended ALERT action for each.
How is the Remote-Access category defined?
Palo Alto Networks defines the Remote-Access category as sites that provide tools or information to facilitate authorized Remote Access to private computers and attached networks.
Will the Remote-Access category be visible across all PAN-OS software?
The Remote-Access category will be visible on all supported PAN-OS software versions.
When will the Remote-Access category appear in Content Updates?
The “Remote-Access” category will be introduced in the content version released on November 19, 2024. This new category will be visible on the administrator management console after you install the content version released on this date or later.

Although the new category appears in firewalls with content released on November 19, 2024, or later, we will not activate it until January 15, 2025. Please ensure that your Security policy rules are configured appropriately for this new category before this date if you intend to alert on or block Remote Access-related website traffic on your network.
What happens if my device uses a content version released before November 19, 2024?
On content versions released before November 19, 2024, URLs published under the new Remote-Access category will be classified as some of the older categories, such as Internet-Communications-and-Telephony, Computer-and-Internet-Info, etc.
