Cortex for Linux: Scanning through command line

Hello,

We have a use case in that we want to pre-scan files in a software installed on Linux. Is there any way to do a custom scan using Cortex in Linux? I searched all documentations regarding Cortex on Windows and Linux and it seems there is no such an option.

Hi @Arman_Zaheri, thanks for reaching us using the Live Community.

For now, the on-write scan is only available for Windows, which could be the best fit feature for this.

But instead, you can use the Endpoint Scanning feature in the Malware profile for Linux. There you can add additional directories to scan using the module at the time you specify.

So there is no on-access scan for Linux or Windows? In my scenario, Cortex is installed on a Linux OS, but I was still able to transfer malicious files to a software installed on this Linux. That software also has an option to scan incoming files using a command-line, but it seems there is no way to do it by Cortex. What workaround or solution do we have for such cases?

Hi @Arman_Zaheri, there is on-write protection for Windows available from the latest release of XDR Agent 8.3 and XDR Console 3.9: https://docs-cortex.paloaltonetworks.com/r/Cortex-XDR/Cortex-XDR-Release-Notes/February-2024

When an executable, DLL or script is written to the endpoint drive, it starts the scan process as if it was executed.

For Linux, at the moment, we don't have this feature yet. You can't also start a manual scan from the linux endpoint, you can do it from the XDR Console with a right click - Security Operations - Initiate Malware Scan.
