Migrate from PA-850 to PA-3430 Model

L1 Bithead

Hi,

I am working on replacing PA-850s with PA-3430 and I would like to know if I can use Expedition tool  to migrate the configuration from 850s to 3430s.

If yes can someone list out the steps as I am trying to use it for first time.

Thanks

Vishwas

Hi @VishwasAkbilwam

Given your use case you do not require Expedition as you should be good to export your configuration from the PA850 and import it into PA3430. The new device will auto-convert the configuration to the new PAN-OS version.

Please have a try and in case you have any issues contact the TAC team for assistance.

Note: When you import a PAN-OS configuration into Expedition, Expedition does not take care of all the configuration tags but only those managed in Expedition.
That's why when generating the export we suggest using the XML load partial on the modified sections or the API calls. Using Expedition to migrate from one device to another can result in missing tag configurations not managed by Expedition. On the warning tab you will see the sections not managed by Expedition that require special attention in case you import the full XML.

I recommend watching this quick-videos to get an overview of Expedition migration capabilities: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLD6FJ8WNiIqVez8EBeoyRsnQcKTA5FuZ-

Hope this helps and let me know if you have any other question or concern,

Best regards,

David
