Zone name length

L2 Linker

Hi all,

I was working with Expedition today when I noticed that, when creating a new zone in Expedition, the zone name length was clipped at 15 characters. When I imported configuration from a firewall containing a name longer than 15 characters, this was imported perfectly fine.

Couldn't find any other discussion regarding this, has anyone noticed it?

Kind regards,

Renzo

What i say its only if you are creating a ZONE on top of  a Base Config (or any panos config) and the panos version is higher than 7 you be able to assign more than 15 chars... If you create a zone in your Cisco config will be restrited to 15 chars max... Do you know what i mean? thanks

have you created the zone on a config from palo alto or from another vendor? We only allow create zone names longer than 15 when you are adding it to a PanOS config and the PanOS version is higher than 7.

Hi Albert,

I created the zone manually in Expedition, it was not imported. I did create this on a Cisco imported configuration, but the long zone was created post-import.

I do get it indeed now.

Out of curiosity, is this planned to be changed in the future?

Its something we are considering yes...

I also ran in to similar situation. The Cisco config that I imported had zone name that had more than 15 character. This zone was marked invalid in expedition. Once I reduced the length of the name to 15 then was not marked invalid anymore.
