Brightcloud Revision 4272 and *.googleapis.com

L2 Linker

Just a heads up that revision 4272 of Brightcloud which installed on my PAN-500 overnight marks *.googleapis.com as spyware, so certain Google services will not load if you are blocking adware/spyware categories.  I reverted back to 4271 before I figured out the issue.  Have added *.googleapis.com to the allow list in case a future install does the same thing.

We had this problem also, we have an application that pulls from google maps, it was failing, just for the Maps part.

We also noticed that browsing to youtube.com on an iPhone would work fine, but the actual youtube app would fail.

Hi everyone,

BrightCloud originally had this miscategorized last week, but published a fix last Thursday (v4274).  However, as many of you noticed, the category reverted back to "spyware and adware" on Tuesday due to a hard drive failure with BrightCloud's master database.  During their disaster recovery process, they restored an earlier version of the database that included the miscategorization.  This has since been fixed and googleapis.com is now correctly categorized as "business and economy" again.
