can not install and not remove globalprotect

L0 Member

I work on a Vista machine and after using it succesfully for a long time, I had a problem with my GlobalProtect (it did not connect). I read somewhere it might help to uninstall it and then re-installing again, which I did. The uninstall was succesfull but something went wrong when I then tried to install it. Now I have a situation in which I can not install the program (when I try to, it gives an error message about something being wrong with my kernel32.dll), and neither can remove the program (error message: There is a problem with this windows installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personal or package vendor). For the second error message, I tried this: https://live.paloaltonetworks.com/t5/Management-Articles/Error-When-Installing-the-User-ID-Agent/ta-..., but unfortunately it did not work. Anyone with a solution for this, please?

I was unable to uninstall GP 3.1.5 not long ago.

1. On the client machine, will you open the cmd as an administrator and run the following command: sc delete PanGPS
2. Clean out the registry and Program directories. Various versions of Global Protect do not uninstall cleanly.
a. Start -> run -> regedit.
b. Remove the following key - HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palo Alto Networks
c. Remove the following key - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Palo Alto Networks
d. Delete the following folder/directory - C:\Program Files\Palo Alto Networks

To remove the GP Virtual Adapter (The above process does not remove it)
You should be able to remove the adapter if you go into Device Manager>Network Adaptors>RClick on PANGP VEA and select uninstall.

Thanks for your answer.

I managed to do step 2, but when doing the first step, I get the message:

[SC] OpenService FAILED 1060:

The specified service does not exist as an installed service

And about removing the adaptor, when looking in the Network Adapters there is no PANGP VEA.

Because step 2 worked fine, I tried to run the installer nevertheless, but when I run it I get to choose between Repair and Remove, which suggests there is still some PAN GP remainings on my system, but where??
