Please forgive my ignorance. I am new to Palo Alto and I am wondering is there a virtual device option for me to use (training, testing, developing)?

What you're likely looking for is called a vm-series, specifically you'll want a LAB license SKU to keep costs down. A VM-50 LAB license is pretty inexpensive if you choose to go that route.
