Feature request: Replace the hard disk with solid state storage

L1 Bithead

Hi Palo Alto

One thing we asked of our var is instead of hard disks in the boxes, can we have solid state disks.

I am informed this is something you do not offer at the moment.

The reason for the feature request, we had our shipment of 2 x 2050's and a 2020 yesterday. Of the three firewalls, one of the 2050's was DOA with a failed hard disk. Obviously not impressed, but that is a different matter which our VAR is dealing with.

So as a feature request, can you offer solid state disks? I am more than happy paying a premium for these.

Please  make sure your VAR submits this on your behalf to their Palo Alto sales team as an official feature request.

The 5000 series of devices (5020, 5050, ad 5060) all ship with an SSD standard.  The 5000s can also be upgraded to a larger SSD and RAID.

This does not help when you have in succession 3 x dead on arrival boxes.

The software side of the product may be good, but with proven evidence your hardware is poor.
We brought 2 x 2050 and one 2020 - before implementation I had seen 6 boxes. Two with hard disk errors, one with memory errors on boot.
It is now the office joke waiting for the hard disks to fail on the PA boxes.

So do something about the hard disks.

Saying to a customer who has spent $100,000 on your solution in effect: "tough, you brought the wrong box" ain't too pleasant. Especially when the cost of solid state disks are getting cheaper by the minute.
