GlobalProtect on mobile devices and geolocation

Cyber Elite

Hello All,

Just want to start by stating I have not tried this yet so I am asking the community to see if anyone has. The question is, will maps/directions and geo location work correctly for a mobile device if the mobile device is on GlobalProtect. Typically when you connect to a VPN you get the 'location' of the nated IP, so I am looking to see if there is an issue with GlobalProtect and how to overcome it, say an executive traveling to a city they dont know and need their phone for directions.

Thanks in advance!

Typically location is extracted from a GPS chip first, cell tower info next, which areiare of signal/internet breakout, and then wifi location

Gps and cell should do the trick

If they do need internet based location, you can set up split tunnel so only connections destined for corporate resources are put in the tunnel

Thanks Reaper for the reply! Do you know of anyone who has done it and ran into issues? Just curious if there are any gotchas I should look out for.

Well Ive not seen any issues with people having problems with geolocation and the primary means for a mobile phone being gps with cell and wifi as secondary there should not be many issues except if someone is indoors with no gps signal

I could test that though 🙂

No worries. I can test and see how it works :). I'll report any weird behavior.
