GlobalProtect Release for Ubuntu 26.04 LTS ?

L0 Member

Hello together.
recently was the new Ubuntu 26.04 LTS release, until now the provided GlobalProtect client supports only Ubuntu 24.04:

When can we expect the new GlobalProtect version for Ubuntu 26.04 ?

Best regards

Hi @dz3454343 ,

This is currently a roadmap item.

Based on feedback from our Product Management team, support for Ubuntu 26.04 is tentatively planned for Q3 CY26, pending final engineering commitment.

For the most up-to-date information on supported operating systems, please keep referring to our official compatibility matrix that you already pointed out: https://docs.paloaltonetworks.com/compatibility-matrix/reference/globalprotect/where-can-i-install-t...

Hello, is there a new estimate on this?  2026 Q3 is now over, and ubuntu 26.04 has been the LTS that Canonical points people to for new installs, for the past seven months.   I'm not sure who my account team or local SE are.

Thank you, for your time.

Same question here
We've been awaiting GlobalProtect support for Ubuntu 26.04 for several months and need timeline visibility.

Hi @panoramix  @aporter ,

Based on the latest information, support for the GlobalProtect UI on Ubuntu 26.04 LTS has been moved to Q4 CY26 (October–December 2026). The initial roadmap targeted Q3 CY26; however, the timeline was subsequently adjusted to accommodate engineering priorities.

Please note that this is a tentative target window and is subject to change based on development, validation, and release readiness.

Please reach out to your account team or local SE for the latest roadmap information (or reach out to TAC to find out who they are).

Thanks for the reply!
I hope the new release timeline works out.

I find it extremely disappointing that Palo Alto continues to treat Linux support as a low priority.

Let's be clear: the current GlobalProtect client for Linux is already far from a satisfactory product. The GUI is outdated, dependency management is problematic, particularly around Qt, and the overall experience is significantly worse than on Windows or macOS.

Now, on top of these existing problems, official support for Ubuntu 26 LTS has been delayed.

Ubuntu LTS releases follow a predictable schedule. This is not an unexpected operating system update that caught Palo Alto by surprise. A company providing enterprise security software should be actively preparing compatibility well before a major LTS release, not scrambling to support it months afterward.

For many of us, GlobalProtect is not a personal choice. It is mandated by our employers. We depend on it to access corporate resources, and poor Linux support effectively prevents us from keeping our operating systems up to date.

Linux users should not have to choose between maintaining a secure, updated operating system and having a functioning corporate VPN.

Palo Alto is a major enterprise security vendor. Supporting mainstream Linux distributions properly should be a basic expectation, not an afterthought.

I would really appreciate a concrete answer from Palo Alto:

  • Is there a dedicated engineering effort to improve the Linux client, beyond simply maintaining compatibility?
  • When can we expect a modern GUI with properly maintained dependencies?
  • Will Palo Alto commit to supporting future Ubuntu LTS releases in a timely manner?

At this point, the problem is not simply the delay in Ubuntu 26.04 support. It is the apparent lack of long-term commitment to delivering a reliable, properly maintained Linux client.

Enterprise Linux users deserve better.
