How to block sites where to buy/sell crypto coins

L3 Networker

Hi,

I'm getting the question of the management to block all sites that are dealing with selling or buying crypto coins.

They are getting tired of it that lots of employees are wasting time to check there crypto coins all the time and buy and sell them.

Is there a way to block this in the firewall? I'm afraid that all of these sites are in the category financial, but our financial team must be able to visit bank sites.

Hi @ZEBIT,

Seeing that there's no separate category for these urls you could create a blocklist for them or put them in a custom URL category with a block action.

Cheers !

hi @ZEBIT

Most of these should either fall under "Stock Advice and Tools" or "Financial Services" URL filtering categories

Blocking these should block most if not all exchanges (if you find one that's not categorized properly, you can submit URL category change requests at https://urlfiltering.paloaltonetworks.com)

Hi Kiwi,

That is correct but I don't know all the url of all these sites...

Rather than blocking you could also set a continue page for financial services and stock advice with a stern warning that access is logged. This way access is not prevented to legitimate financial sites but users will be aware crypto is to be done outside of work

I will give it a try. I really hope Palo Alto can make a seperate category for this.

Hi @ZEBIT,

Blocking the most popular ones will likely block most of your users.

That said, you could add a continue action on the 'Financial' category, warning your users that their actions will be logged.
