Is it possible to mix Pan Agents with Versions 3.1 and 4.1 on a Firewall with PANOS 4.1.4? Any points to consider?

L1 Bithead

Hi all,

is there anything to consider when we want to mix Pan-Agent 3.1 and Userid-Agent 4.1 for a while in an PA-2050 Cluster environment(active/passive) with PANOS 4.1.4 ?

Not running mixed agents but when I researched it with support there are no known issues so long as you are using LDAP for user to group mappings (new panagent only uses ldap). The PAN OS itself works fine with user id agent 3.1. We are running 4.1.3 with user agents 3.1 and it works great. As mentioned, one item to be aware of is that if all your authentication profiles, sequences, and server items use Kerberos you will have to switch to LDAP in order to use the pan agent 4.1.x (that why we are running 3.1 still).
