MineMeld VMWare Desktop RE: Updates for MineMeld and Ubuntu?

L2 Linker

Is there a release date for MindMeld on RHEL?

Until then I was wondering how are we to treat the VMWare desktop version? Can we consider it as an appliance and assume that both the OS and Mindmeld will auto-update itself or do we need to assume patching on the OS itself? Has the OS been hardened? Or is this considered just a test image? What is recommended for a production environment if it is intended to be installed locally?

Thanks!

You might want to ask this in the MineMeld discussion forum as the developer actually is pretty active there.

MineMeld itself will auto-update if you allow it to; the OS on the other hand will need to be hardned by yourself and you will need to update and patch it as you would a normal Ubuntu image.

Adding to @BPry, if you are installing MineMeld using the provided ISO, OVA, AWS and Azure links, Ubuntu security updates are automatically enabled and a minimal hardening is already performed (iptables setup, ...). But you should double check that the default hardening fits your requirements.

Hi Team,

I am trying to install Minemeld on a ESXI but this being a new server was not having internet conenctivity from start. We finished the installation booted the machines and configured proxy and other stuff to provide internet access to the system. Once internet was availabable we mounted the Minemeld ISO (by attaching it in CD-rom) and restarted the machine. Post reboot we are not able to login with the ubuntu\rsplizardspock credentials.. it's giving authentication error.

Please assist.
