Hy everyOne,
I've a PA-500
software version 8.1.2
Application Version : 8536-7270 (03/02/22)
Threat Version : 8536-7270 (03/02/22)
Anti-Virus version : 4008-4519 (03/01/22)
As you can see, no upgrade since March 2022
But if i make a backup and look into the XML file, i can see application : BING-AI-BASE for example or AZURE-AI
Those applications are not in the XML made in march 2022 after the last update.
My question is : how is it possible to see those apps in the PA without any upgrade ??
The problem is that i can't make any COMMIT on my PA after some changes because i have the error message :
Duplicate application name "bing-ai-base"
When i search on the internet, i see that i can have this issue when APP version is newer then THREAT version but it's not the case : my two versions are identicals...
I disable this application but the problem stays the same.
I search in the XML : there is one occurence of this application, not 2.
I already reboot the device with no effect (i just loose all the modifications i made and ther was a lot)
If you can help me....
PS : i can eventually upgrade APP version to the 8958-9353 version (just Apps) but in this case, the APP version will really be newer then THREAT version....(i can't upgrade Threat Version since this installed)
or upgrade the software version to the 8.1.22 instead of 8.1.2 ?
Thank you very much
Eric

Hello,
I highly recommend a support contract. This way you can upgrade to a version that is supported. That OS is end of life. I recommend an upgrade.

The PA-500 is end of support alongside PAN-OS 8.1, you really shouldn't have it in your network anymore. If you must keep it around you certainly need to upgrade it off of 8.1.2; I would install 8.1.26-h1 to at least have the latest version of PAN-OS that you can install since your current installation has multiple CVEs present that have been around for years.
As for the immediate issue, are you taking a backup of the running-config or the candidate-config? When you restarted did you remake all of the changes that you made or did you just try a simple change like adding an address object and hitting commit to see if that goes through? Might be worth just removing any reference to the applications that you're encountering duplicates for in the XML and loading that to resolve the issue.
