Ping an IPv6 Link local address

L4 Transporter

Hi,

Is it possible to ping a IPv6 link local address from a Palo Alto firewall? If so, what is the syntax on the firewall CLI?

I know other platforms allow you to define an outgoing interface when pinging a link local address, but this doesn't look to be available.

Thanks in advance.

Hello @Ben-Price thank you for posting question.

The only way I found to get this work is to source it with GUA IPv6 Address:

ping inet6 yes source [GUA] host [LLA]

By using source LLA IPv6 Address, it is erroring: "bind icmp socket: Invalid argument", so I guess it is not possible.

Kind Regards

Pavel

To clarify, from a source link local address on the PAN firewall to a link local address on a directly connected device
