Reasons to migrate to PAN-DB from BrightCloud ?

L0 Member

Hi PAN Peeps,

I have not been advised of a commercial driver to migrate from BrightCloud to PAN-DB.

I believe we may need to migrate 4.1 to 5.0 fro PAN-DB.

However PAN have effectively signalled this as the future strategy.

Have other End User organistaions had such a bad experience of BrightCloud that PAn have been forced to stand in ?

The initial phase of our deployment hasn't made extensive use of URL categories but this could change shortly.

I think you are correct that 5.X is a requirement for PAN-DB.  I've mostly used BrightCloud on 4.X, and I've posed the same question.  The answers I get back are that PAN-DB is informed from multiple open source lists, and is also fed by wildfire results.  What I would be interested to know is if PAN-DB also categorizes IP addresses.  From what I can tell, BrightCloud URL-Filtering will not block access to websites based on their IP address (if someone could confirm this, it would be greatly appreciated!).

Have you had a chance to look at the  last comment in the following page:-

Hi Lee,

PAN-DB does require PAN-OS v5.0 or greater.  BrightCloud, as mentioned, remains an option for customers.  Since your original question was directed towards other end-user organizations, I'll let others chime in with their experiences.  That said, sraghunandan's post does contain some information on the benefits of PAN-DB.  If you would like to have a detailed conversation regarding the differences and benefits, please contact your account manager for an in-depth conversation.

Thanks,

Doris

I asked about this at the ignite conference and was told that it would be best to stick with Brightcloud because we have a lot of international users.

Hope that helps,

Bob
