Troubleshooting Application Incomplete with two way TCP traffic

Cyber Elite
Cyber Elite

We are having issues with one application while migrating the network from ASA to PA

PA is Running 8.0.9 on 3020.

Application shows as incomplete with more than 4 packets.

We see trasmit and receive in the PA.

Nothing in threat logs.

As per TAC they say use App override as first step and then flow basic and content basic.

Will do this once gets test window from the client.

Need to confirm if this is best way to troubleshoot this.

Hey Mike

I would see if you can get a packet capture for this type of traffic; see what the traffic actually is. If you're noticing patterns then you can even create your own App-ID and custom signature for the traffic you have here.

https://docs.paloaltonetworks.com/pan-os/8-1/pan-os-admin/app-id/use-application-objects-in-policy/c...

Otherwise, application override is probably your best bet.

Thanks,

Luke.

@MP18,

An application-override rulebase entry will work; however, I'd highly recommend using that only as an intermediate step before doing what @LukeBullimore mentioned and just building your own application signature for this traffic. Since you already mentioned that you have to wait for a maintenance window as is, I would pursue a custom app-id in the meantime.

will look for custom app also

in curent scenario we see tcp retransmissions as PA does not see return traffic from client.

can you please redirect me to best document for custom app?
