Vsystems With HA( Active/Passive)

Not applicable

Question :

Please refer the attached Diagram.

  1. If the Vsys1.1 fails what will happen to the firewall 1? What will happen to Vsys2.1, Vsys3.1 (will they remain active or will they go passive as well.
  2. How will be the session synchronization between virtual firewalls (Eg- Vsys1.1 & Vsys1.2) and between the two physical firewalls?

Please some one help me in this regard.

Thanks.

Hi There,

VSys failover is done at the physical and not virtual level currently.  This means that any failure condition that you have configured or any system failure will result in a full physical swap of active and passive functions.  So if VSys1 fails - then the whole device fails over.  It is unlikely that a VSys will fail while others do not, except on a physical interface level.  if you have a 4,000 series Link Aggregation can help to mitigate this.

All sessions for all VSys are synchronised all of the time using a dedicated HA link.

Hope this helps

James
