Good morning, all!
My lab PA-440 threw a weird on at me this week. When I tried to add it to a new SNMP server (Observium) the firewall stopped talking on the web interface and wouldn't respond to pings to the management IP. After some rather involved troubleshooting I found that the filesystem has been corrupted.
After some intense rebooting and several sessions with Maintenance Mode, I was able to restore a previous version of PAN-OS and boot the firewall. Now, after trying the SNMP again, the same thing happened. Because of the difference in the firewall firmware versions, I'm not immediately blaming SNMP, but it is possible.
SNMP was enabled on the management interface per both Observium and PA documentation. I have yet to run across a RO SNMP that broke the target device. The SNMP server shows that it used snmpget and snmpwalk, and that no errors were observed.
I'm going to try and get the firewall back, likely through the same procedures that initially restored the firewall. If so, I'll do some firmware upgrades and run through some configuration exercises before trying SNMP again.
For the group: has anyone had issues with SNMP of any sort break their firewalls in this way?
Thanks to all for looking!
