IoT (Internet of Things) has transformed our way of life through the way we interact with the Internet. Until recently, access to the Internet was limited to personal computers like a desktop, laptops, and smartphones. Now with IoT, we see refrigerators, webcams, medical devices, and all sorts of home appliances connected to the Internet. While IoT boosts productivity in our day-to-day lives, as Security Practitioners, we need to understand the risks IoT devices bring to our network world.
"V3G4", a new variant of the Mirai botnet primarily targets IP cameras and other IoT devices exposed to the internet. Unit 42 found that once exploited, hackers leverage the devices as a part of their botnet network. The devices are used to conduct DDoS attacks or carry out other malicious activities.
