cyvrlpc.sys failure

L3 Networker

Our IT department supports a OurDesktop virtual environment. I was notified of an error that has been coming up during multiple sessions. It acts somewhat like a BSOD in that it shows an error then reboots the computer for you.

No configuration changes were made. Running v8.9 in this environment.

Stop code: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (0X3B)

What failed: cyvrlpc.sys

This seems to be isolated to our virtual environment which is a perk for now. Have other members seen this before? If so, what was the next recommended COA?

Hello @CraigV123 ,

Greetings for the day.

The investigation centered on the cyvrlpc.sys driver. Backend Team confirmed that the crash was triggered by an extremely rare race condition involving low available kernel memory on the specific host.

Under these specific low-resource conditions, a memory allocation request by the driver failed to resolve as expected, leading to the one-time system instability you experienced.
Given the unique combination of kernel memory exhaustion required to trigger this bug, our backend team classifies the likelihood of recurrence on this or other machines as extremely low.

To ensure complete protection against this specific edge case, we recommend scheduling an update of your Cortex XDR agents to version 9.0.1 or higher at your earliest convenience.
