Application & URL Filtering/ Blocking

L0 Member

Hi

I've been this question, and I'd assume we'd need to block under both but I just want to make sure.

If we block a URL e.g dropbox, does this block the application as well or do we need to double up and also block the application itself under file-sharing?

Cheers

Muir

@Mlangley,

If your intention is to completely cut off all access to dropbox I would use both the URL filtering along with app-id blocking. This is just an extra insurance that no-matter what the user utilizes you can still catch the app-id.

To expand on @BPry's explanation, you can also use the URL filter to block out the category Online-Storeage-and-Backup. This would be a broader block however. Also creating a application filter and subsequent policy to block for File-Sharing.

Cheers!
