Commit Lock

L3 Networker

Hey all,

Has anyone found a way for a non-superuser to remove a commit lock?

I'm aware the official line still seems to be only a superuser can remove the lock, and this is definitely the case in PANOS 9.0 but hoping there might be a way to have this as a role-based permission in later releases (or maybe some from Palo knows that this is actually going to happen).

Most of our customers have multiple admins, we want the automatic commit lock to raise awareness and to avoid accidental overlapping but not all admins are superusers. Neither turning off automatic commit lock or making them superusers is a good outcome.

Thanks,

Shannon

@SARowe_NZ,

This hasn't changed in later releases, you need to be a superuser to remove a commit lock in place by another admin. This is to ensure that none superuser administrators can't commit half-finished configurations by other administrators. It's assumed that if you have superuser permissions you know enough about the platform and your network to ensure that the other admin's changes are actually going to function prior to removing said commit lock. I don't see PAN changing this anytime soon.

If you trust these non-superuser administrators to determine if a full commit is a good idea, you could always script it through the API and publish the script through a web portal like Rundeck or something like that. Have the script use a superuser account to remove the configuration locks in place by other admins and run a commit.
