Hi All,
I apologize for the basic question and have to ask since I do not have a spare firewall pair to test with.
Wanted to understand the link group configuration behavior when there are no interfaces specified under it. Palo Alto does accept the configuration so does that mean that all interfaces are being monitored or none of the interfaces are monitored? Asking this because the CLI command 'show high-availability link-monitoring' just specifies the following and no interfaces are listed which makes me wonder if any interfaces are being monitored.
show high-availability link-monitoring
Group 100:
Mode: Active-Passive
Link Monitoring Information:
Enabled: yes
Failure condition: any
Group TEST:
Enabled: yes
Failure condition: any
Thanks in advance,
Rahul

Hi @rahulbri ,
No interfaces will be monitored if you don't put any in the Link Group.
Cheers,
-Kiwi.

Thanks @kiwi
Is there any documentation for the same. Would appreciate if you can point me towards it.

Rahul

Hi @rahulbri ,
Just this one about Link Monitor and Path Monitoring behaviour :
https://knowledgebase.paloaltonetworks.com/KCSArticleDetail?id=kA10g000000ClG7CAK
But it doesn't explicitly mention that it will not monitor any interface if you leave it empty.
Cheers !

Thanks again @kiwi
It would be great if we could have this in a PAN documentation/KB article since this feature appears to be open to interpretation at the moment.

Rahul

I agree. It is open for interpretation, and existing Docs or Knowledgebase articles don't mention the default behavior (links must be added to be monitored). In my perspective, I was reading it as all are monitored, then when links are added, only those will be monitored.
Glad I found this post.
Thanks.
Jeff
